A visit from the Smoothie Bike
02 March 2012 |
| We had a visit from the Smoothie Bike. The children learnt about the importance of eating lots of fruit and vegetables as part of a healthy diet. They also learnt about the nutritional values of different types of fruit. Bananas release energy really slowly, so they are good for people keen on sport. They also contain lots of potassium, an important mineral. |

Minibridge Event
25 January 2012 |
Minibridge Event
Pembury School took a team of minibridge players to play at the prestigious Young Chelsea Bridge Club on Wednesday. The English Bridge Union had arranged for three primary schools to play there to promote the mathematical and social skills of the game. Journalists from leading newspapers and magazines were invited to play with the children - or be taught by them if they didn't know how to play. Two keen bridge players from the House of Lords also supported the event - Baroness Henig and Lord Skelmersdale. The children played minibridge from 10:30 til 2:30, with just a short break for lunch - a marathon mental workout! They represented Pembury School superbly, with one journalist making a point of commenting on their superb behaviour - and minibridge skills. Well done!

Christmas Card Competition
02 December 2011 |
The children have designed their own Christmas cards, which will be printed for use by their families. We ran a competition to select the best designs, which will be the official cards sent out by the school.
Ally Taylor's design won the local MPs competition and her design will be used throughout Christmas by Greg Clark, our local MP. Greg visited the school on 2 December to present Ally with various prizes from the House of Commons. Many congratulations to Ally for her outstanding achievement.
We had some excellent designs this year, so very well done to all our winners. Also pictured here is one of our other winners by Joshua Gordon from Birch Class |

Electric Car Visit
15 November 2011 |
| We had a visit by an electric car: the Mini E. The children had a chance to look around the vehicle and explore how it is different from a normal petrol engine car. For example, an electric car has no exhaust pipe. They asked good questions about the environmental impact of electric cars and how this technology might be used in the future. |

Harvest Festival
13 October 2011 |
We celebrated our annual Harvest Festival in aid of Farm Africa. The children performed songs, poetry, recorder playing, shared information about the work of Farm Africa, and the presented harvest gifts of dried foods, tins, fruit, vegetables and a variety of packet foods. We also had many harvest baskets, which the children had designed and made, which were used to distribute the harvest gifts to local retired members of our community, who always greatly appreciate them. We raised £191.84 towards the work of Farm Africa.
Farm Africa is part of the Give Poverty the Boot campaign and one of our harvest activities was to design a Wellington boot with art work relevant to Farm Africa. The winners of our Design a Wellie competition were:
Emily Newman in Upper KS2
Niamh Moore in Lower KS2
Lucas Thraves in KS1
Here are their designs: |
