School Office
Respect is at the heart of our school.

Procedure if your child is unwell

If your child is not well and not able to come to school then we ask that parents telephone the school office on 01892 822259 everyday of their childs absence. With regards to Covid-19 symptoms, please follow government guidelines, but please still let us know if your child will be absent from school. If they are having to self-isolate but are well, then they will need to be taking part in home learning.

We have a 48 hour diarrhea and sickness policy at Pembury School – Your child cannot attend school until 48 hours has passed since they have last been sick or had diarrhea.

Please see below some guidance from the government regarding illness and your childs education.

Children pick up all sorts of bugs so hopefully the two guides (click on the link) below will be of some use.

Procedure for appointments during school hours

If you have to take your child out of school for any reason, including medical, dental, and school visit appointments, please complete this form

prior to the appointment, along with any supporting evidence of the appointment.

This is so that we can authorise the absence where we can and that your child is not marked as “unauthorised absent” in our register. Please see below guidance from the government regarding school attendance:

It is important that your child attends school every day but we realise that there may be special circumstances when you need to request some time for leave. This must be done in advance (preferably 2 weeks in advance) using this form. Please email or hand it in to the school office and this will be given to the headteacher, who will decide if leave is to be authorised. Unauthorised absence may be subject ot a penalty fine of £120 per parent, per pupil.

Please refer to our attendance policy for further details.  Please see the Attendance policy here.

Leave requests.

For all future requests please complete the online form as per the following link:-

Leave taken during term time needs to be requested using the above link, and this will be put to the Head Teacher. Doctors and medical appointments should aim to be taken after school or during the holidays, if possible. If this is not possible, you need to request time off for these appointments and you may be asked to provide evidence.

Where evidence is required please forward any documents to or hand it in to the office.

Pupils learn new things at school every day. Missing school simply puts them behind and can hinder their chances. Please consider these implications carefully before taking your child out of school during term time.

“Head Teachers cannot grant leave of absence unless there are exceptional circumstances. The application must be made in advance and the head teacher must be satisfied that there are exceptional circumstances based on the individual facts and circumstances of the case which warrant the leave. Where a leave of absence is granted, the head teacher will determine the number of days a pupil can be away from school. A leave of absence is granted entirely at the head teacher’s discretion.” School attendance – Departmental advice for maintained schools, academies, independent schools and local authorities (Department for Education October 2014)

As you can see, Head Teacher must be satisfied that there are exceptional circumstances based on the individual facts and circumstances. “Exceptional” – rare, significant and short. If an event can reasonably be scheduled outside of term time then it cannot be authorised.

Please note, the application must be submitted no less than 10 days before the proposed absence.

Please outline below the exceptional reasons for your application for leave or holiday.

A response will ONLY be sent back if leave is NOT approved OR it relates to a HOLIDAY / WEDDING OR AN EXCEPTIONAL CIRCUMSTANCE request. The Head Teacher will respond to these request within 4 working days.

Leave for Doctors/Hospital/Dental appointments are approved for the time of the appointment and travel time only and children should come in before or after their appointment. Leave outside of this time will NOT be authorised.
