Pupil Premium Funding

Our school has received £65,475 in the academic year 2022-23 with 43 pupils receiving funding. This equates to 11% of the school being eligible for Pupil Premium funding. The funding is targeted at pupils who are eligible for free school meals as part of the government’s drive to close the gap in pupil achievement among disadvantaged children. Pembury School is also committed to closing this gap and we use Pupil Premium funding to target resources to support pupils who are either underachieving or in danger of doing so.

In 2022-23 Pupil Premium has been used to fund and train teachers and teaching assistants who help to deliver specific intervention programmes to help children catch up and reach the age-related expectation in English and mathematics. This will continue in 2023-24.

The funding has also been used to fund our Confidence coach, Susie Goode, she works will vulnerable pupils on a 1:1 basis or small groups and will cover areas such as self confidence, emotional resilience, buoyancy and also some work on transition to secondary school.

Teaching assistants are used similarly to provide focused programmes of support to help children catch up, who might otherwise be at risk of falling behind. In the early years this may be by providing additional support with speech and language, acquiring phonic skills and developing social skills. Teaching assistants have also been trained to provide specialist support in delivering precision teaching which can be used to teach spelling, reading and number.  This was led by the Kent Educational psychology team.

Educational visits provide pupils with an excellent opportunity of learning outside of the classroom and have a positive impact on their learning. To prevent pupils missing out on this opportunity Pupil Premium Funds have been used partly or wholly to fund educational visits for children in receipt of these funds.

A small amount of the funding will be used to supply parents, whose children are eligible for pupil premium funding, with a free school jumper once a year for their child to ensure that no family is disadvantaged with regards to purchasing school uniform.
